GASCI Terms of Reference:

The Aim of the General Aviation Safety Council of Ireland (GASCI) is to promote the safety of General Aviation in Ireland.

To achieve this, GASCI seeks to identify flight safety risks and minimise them through education, training and shared experience amongst the Aviation Community.

GASCI Council Composition:

The Council shall be composed of:

1) Nominees from all recognised representative bodies involved in General Aviation in Ireland.
2) Representatives from disciplines such as training organisations, maintenance organisations, aerodrome operators , and air traffic service providers.
3) An IAA nominee.
4) An AAIU nominee.
5) An independent member of the flying community who has particular expertise but is not affiliated to any particular organisation may be invited to participate by the Council.

Credentials of proposed Council representatives should be submitted to GASCI for consideration and acceptance. Training organisations, maintenance organisations, aerodrome operators or other groupings that do not have a formal representative body are encouraged to participate in GASCI. 

Terms of Reference of Council

The Council is an independent, apolitical body purely concerned with the overall aim, to promote flight safety in General Aviation. Members of the Council nominated by representative bodies shall act independently and in the best interest of General Aviation. The Council members shall elect a chairman to serve for a one year term. Each Council member shall have a single vote. Decisions of the Council shall be reached by a simple majority vote of Council members present or voting by proxy. A minimum of 50% of members constitutes a quorum. The Council shall meet twice a year and at more regular intervals as the Council may decide. 

Communication

GASCI shall establish an internet presence that will enable any person to submit a subject or item for consideration by the Council. The Council shall from time to time publish articles, reviews and reports on relevant safety topics. In addition it will provide regular updates on its meetings, activities and current projects. GASCI will, in conjunction with other organisations, organise safety seminars and flight safety training courses. 

Funding

GASCI has no direct funding and Council members shall not receive any direct remuneration. The IAA shall provide meeting facilities and  administrative and IT resources as appropriate. Funding for specific projects shall be addressed on a project basis and funding contributions may be sought from the representative bodies, the IAA and other parties who may be willing to assist.
